What actually differs

Composite

  • Cheaper upfront
  • Applied & shaped directly in one visit
  • Stains more easily over time
  • Chips more often
  • Typically replaced every 3-7 years

Ceramic (Porcelain / Emax / Lumineers)

  • Higher quality, more natural translucency
  • Custom-made in a lab for a precise fit
  • Holds its colour — resists staining
  • Stronger, chips less
  • Typically lasts 10-15+ years
Our choice

Why Dentasmart only works with ceramic

Composite is cheaper for us to offer too — but it's not what we'd choose for a smile someone has flown to Dubai for. It stains, chips, and usually needs redoing within a few years, which defeats the point of investing in travel and treatment.

That's why every veneer we place — no-prep or minimal-prep — is premium ceramic: Emax or an equivalent high-strength material. Never composite.

Quick answers

  • Is Emax the same as porcelain? Yes — a premium, high-strength category of ceramic.
  • Are Lumineers ceramic? Yes — a branded ceramic product, not composite.
  • Can composite be upgraded to ceramic later? Usually yes, with a fresh assessment.
FAQ

Materials questions, answered

Do you use composite veneers?
No — Dentasmart works exclusively with premium ceramic veneers (including Emax), never composite. Composite is cheaper and faster to apply, but it stains more easily, chips more often, and typically needs replacing within a few years.
Is Emax the same as porcelain?
Emax (lithium disilicate) is a specific type of high-strength ceramic — a premium category within porcelain veneers, not a separate material. It's prized for being extremely thin yet strong, which is why it's often used for no-prep and minimal-prep cases.
Are Lumineers ceramic or composite?
Lumineers is a branded ceramic product, not composite. It's one of several premium ceramic brands (alongside Emax) built around the same principle: ultra-thin shells that need little to no tooth preparation.
How much longer do ceramic veneers last than composite?
Ceramic veneers commonly last 10-15 years or more with good care. Composite veneers are typically replaced or touched up every 3-7 years, as the resin wears, stains and chips faster than ceramic.
